I don’t know if I am the best person to guide you, but I’ll do my best! :D
Let’s see, first of all of course you should decide what your blog will talk about: music, drawings, just your thoughts, the things you like, your everyday life or an ask blog, it doesn’t matter what you put in it, the important thing is that these things must be what you love!
Because the second most important thing is the passion: it could not be a perfect blog, but as long as you put your passion in it your emotions will pass through the screen and get to people who read it. And I can assure you that that’s probably the most important thing, that’s what gives a blog a purpose!
Do not let updating your blog stress you! If you force yourself to put something in it, it won’t be as good as it would be if it was spontaneous! Remember, as a kind and lovely anon said to me: ‘quality ALWAYS trumps quantity’. And he/she is right.
I wouldn’t want to talk about followers, because gaining them it’s not what a Tumblr’s purpose is. Bur remember that even if just one person follows you, you should love the fact that there’s someone who likes the things you do, and you should keep updating the blog, since loving to do something and having even only one person that always reads and likes it it’s a wonderful thing! <3
Also, there are some jerks around, so you shouldn’t worry if someone trolls you. Just keep doing what you like and everything will be fine, you don’t have to justify yourself for anything, nor you should give them satisfaction getting angry or sad! Remember that irony will always save you in (almost) every situation, so if you really feel they pass the line, just answer back making they notice how stupid they are. ;3
The last thing I want to suggest you, related to the trolls, is: be careful, do not mistake constructive critics with trolling, for they are very, very useful! Always read them and keep them in your mind in case you want to change something in your work!
